Favorite 1st edition character class

Postby Willmark on Sun Dec 20, 2009 3:01 pm

For me its probably the same as 2nd Fighter/Magic-User with a close 2nd running to the Cavalier for some odd reason. I know some places/people do not like the UA but I always did.

What's your take?

I do like clerics and Magic Users but you have to put so much effort into building them up to become something powerfull. Fighters are easy but are only really great in combat so I prefer using a cleric, I see them as a defensive magic user if you can accept it

Fighters are perhaps my 2nd favorite as my group can attest: my d10s for Hit points are obscene.

I hear you about clerics however: good weapons, good spells (lacking on the combat side compared to MUs however) and decent Hit Points.

The lure for F/MU for me (either edition) is that there are a number fo ways to build them up that make them far deadlier and more fun to play then either class desperately.

Yeh, some people can't handle starting at level 0-1 with no spells

I actually liked the Basic D&D: no spells for cleric at 1st level thing, it was odd, but made sense somehow.

I should also clarify; all of my fighters I seem to play: rolling d10s? Yeah... its obscenely bad.

Chello!

Cleric/Ranger. I've only played two in 29 years, but they're always fun. My first one was in HS back around '85,86. He was a cleric Aslan. :)

The other was in the mid 90s and only played in one game before the campaign fell about due to the "real world."
