AD&D 2.5

Postby Enlightened on Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:43 am

I was in the Army and wasn't playing RPGs during the AD&D revised edition period, so I have never actually played it. As far as AD&D 2E goes, I only played the version that came out in 1989. However, just to round out my collection, I have been thinking of ordering the revised edition books.

What are you opinions of AD&D 2.5?

Curiously, I never played 2nd, as I was more a BECMI player than Ad&d. I had opportunity to lurk trough 2.5 and felt it was plenty of interesting options, very complete, but need some time to customize exactly the rules which fits your game - same thing for all kits and 2nd material:: you can't use all at the same time, but you got material to make something good.

I only ever played the '89 rules too. Never liked the whole ".5" idea myself. If you don't have enough changes to merit a new edition, than leave it alone until you do, I say.

I uses a lot of the Optional rules contained the Option Series Combat & Tactics. It offers a different initiative system, Knockdowns, an extensive Critical Hit systems, some advanced rules for using figurines and combat grids etc..Very interesting. I don't play with all of it, i don't uses CP (character points that permit to optimize your character) among other things.

2.5 never appealed to me either in fact I simply dont use most of the stuff but I can see the appeal of those who do want to use it. Of course now if you really want that play 3rd or 4th editions.
